If the council can show that a debtor has refused or not made an effort to pay, the magistrates could send the debtor to prison.

Warrants of Arrests can be issued for the non payment of a Liability Orders or Distress Warrant and bailiffs are often contracted to enforce these warrants. Two different types of warrants are enforced by a bailiff. One where bail has been agreed and the other where bail is not an option warrant. JBW executes warrants and serve bail documents and has arrangements with the Police and Court Services to make arrests and transport prisoners throughout the UK.   

Councils and courts employ JBW for arrest services, because we have:

• Uniformed staff – JBW’s staff are all uniformed and clearly identify themselves as bailiffs. Our bailiffs do not purport to be police officers or officers of the court.
• Compliant vehicles – JBW use compliant vehicles for the transportation of prisoners and have access to 11 of these vehicles throughout the UK.
